The largest city in Belize is called the Belize City. It is located near the Belize River with a population of about 79,600. This city was discovered by the British lumber harvesters in the mid-17th century. Belize City then became the capital of British Honduras until 1961 as it was destroyed by a hurricane. As a result, the capital city was shifted to Belmopan.

Belize commemorates their independence day every 21st of September. It was in September 21, 1981 when this country became free from the colony of England. The national heroes of Belize are Monrad Metzgen, George Cadle and Philip Goldson. Every 10th of September, the National day is celebrated. This is also known as St. George Caye Day.

The approximate GDP of the country is $1.354 billion. The trading partners are mostly from Central America, Mexico, European Union and the United States.
